Beyond Good Design
Spring Semester 2024 || 4 Sem. || Intercultural Design || Barbora Demovič and Mio Kojima
As part of the module “Intercultural Design,” fourth-semester students in our BA Graphic Design & Visual Communication program critically examined the notion of “good design.” Under the academic supervision of lecturers Barbora Demovič and Mio Kojima, the students worked on the collective publication Beyond Good Design.
What is considered "good design"? Who decides, and why? The notion of "good design" is often associated with Western Eurocentric visual languages and concepts. The publication aims to question the idea of "good design" as a singular and universal narrative and seeks to broaden and complicate the design canon and its represented voices and values.
With a focus on diverse cultural representation, this collaborative effort highlights the critical thinking of our students, pushing the boundaries of what "good design" means in today’s interconnected world.
To celebrate this successful project, we gathered at a launch event organized by the students in Tiergarten.
