Interdisciplinary Design Project with Hertha BSC
On Tuesday, the 24th of January, fans of the Berlin-based football club Hertha BSC gathered at Olympiasdation to show their colors and spirit of solidarity, cheering for their team on their home turf––Olympiastadion. Joining the crowd were Berlin International students, immersing themselves in what it means to be a fan.
Students of the Faculty of Architecture and Design have worked in groups throughout the Fall Semester in collaboration with Hertha to redesign the club’s fan shop in Olympiastadion. Hertha BSC is currently looking to redesign several shops, and students’ worked in close contact with club representatives to fully capture their corporate identity and design, possibly incorporating students’ ideas into their future design strategy. The project is the focus of this semester’s Interdisciplinary Design Project, which focuses on temporary structures, or branded spaces, or a combination of both.
Hertha, one of Berlin’s oldest clubs, established in 1982 and fondly known as “The Old Lady” (Die Alte Dame in German), has had some impressive history, though, having won the German Championship twice.
The dynamics of teamwork are only some of the things the students will have learned from this Interdisciplinary Design Project. Collaborating with Hertha allows students to work on a real-life situation with budget and time limitations and learn how to carry out a project through all stages. Students also benefit from interacting with other design departments, preparing them for future participation in larger teams and project-based work.
All design teams will present their projects on the 3rd of February––on campus in Studio 3. One can only hope the team spirit on display could benefit Hertha’s game the following Saturday.
