Memorial & Museum Sachsenhausen
Berlin International is excited to announce the student excursion to the Memorial and Museum Sachsenhausen (Gedenkstätte und Museum Sachsenhausen). This project is supported by the DAAD STIBET I program, which aims to educate and integrate international students. Through exploring the Sachsenhausen concentration camp and memorial, participants will raise their awareness of German history and learn more about remembrance culture.
The excursion will take place on a Sunday, the 7th of May, 2023, and is free of charge. BI organizes the transportation. Students will gather in front of the university at 10:15 and arrive back at 17:30.
The Gedenkstätte und Museum Sachsenhausen reminds us of the millions of people who lost their lives due to the cruel actions of the Nazi Regime in World War II. The original buildings and remains of the concentration camp give us a glimpse of this dark time in history. A visit to this site allows us a unique opportunity to honor the victims and learn from the past.
To prepare for the experience, we offer a preparatory lecture on German history and National Socialism by Vice President Prof. Dr. Peter Mantel, who, among other things, earned an M.A. in history, philosophy, and sociology at the Freie Universität Berlin. The lecture will be held in Studio 4 on the 3rd of May, 2023, at 5:15 pm.
Students must register to be able to participate. Seats are limited, and registration is done on a “first come, first serve” basis. Registration is open until the 23rd of April, 2023.
