Big screen, large type
Prof. Alexander Tibus and lecturer Martin Hinze took the first semester Graphic Design and Visual Communication students to the “The Big Screen – Film Posters of All Time”. The exhibition presents 300 originals dating from the early 1900s to the 2020s, including a rare Metropolis poster in the impressive format of 2,2 x 3 meters. Moreover, the exhibition provides a great range of type, lettering, and script. After a few instructions on how to catch the proportions of characters and script, the students sketched typographic details of their choice. The large variety of typographic styles and techniques serve as a source of inspiration for the current project work in the Typography and Layout course.
