Najd Kayali about studying MBA at BI
Our MBA student Najd is talking about what studying at Berlin International is like and answering the most frequently asked questions to prospective students of BI!
The Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Berlin International University of Applied Sciences is set within the unique Berlin context, which not only houses many multinational corporations (MNCs) but also represents a major start-up hub in Europe. The ultimate goal of the program is to prepare global professionals of diverse backgrounds with solid managerial knowledge, tools, and skills, strengthened by an alluring network, in order to create value in changing business environments.
“Hello, my name is Nadj Kayali and I am from Syria. I am 36 years old, born in Saudi Arabia, and I have a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from Jordan. I am studying, currently undertaking the Master of Business Administration program, and I am in my second year. I chose to study MBA because I wanted a different career path than the one I had before. I wanted to explore other options in life and I also wanted to update and improve my future employment prospects.
The best experience I had when I started at BI was when I saw a business idea of mine take shape and undergo all the phases of development, from idea to prototype. I made my first landing page which I actually designed from scratch and that was very cool. I also had the opportunity to attend open lectures hosted by pioneers in the industry and ambassadors from different countries. And finally, I established great friendships with people from different countries that I’ve never been to before.
When I first started to apply to universities, BI caught my attention immediately, thanks to their wonderfully designed website. I did some research and when I read about it I became more interested. The features that attract me the most about BI are its top-quality education because it is a state-recognized university with accredited programs and offers globally recognized degrees, and an international learning environment. It offers practice-driven courses with practical relevance, clear structure, and a strong orientation towards the industries and global job markets. I would describe BI as an international, educational, and impressive university. I would describe my program as creative, important, and ambitious. I would describe Berlin as diverse, beautiful, and exciting.
It offers practical implementations like hands-on projects with external partners, the chance to get in touch with creative and startup industries, and the opportunity of networking with major corporate partners. It is located in the heart of Berlin and features modern equipped facilities and the language of teaching is 100% in English. It fosters company visits, internships, and cooperations with studios, startups, and established companies.
As a person who was lucky enough to grow up in a diverse and multicultural environment, I know exactly what a wonderful and important experience it is. So when you meet and establish profound relationships with people from different walks of life, you start to appreciate the similarities and respect the differences between you and them. And it enhances your perspective in a way that makes it easier for you to look beyond race and social constructs and grants you the ability to always look at the big picture and think outside the box. I will always appreciate the international environment that BI offers its students. An environment that any student should experience if he or she truly dreams of becoming a pioneer in their chosen industry and a true citizen of the world.
Student life in Berlin is absolutely incredible. Berlin is a city that is perfect for new students, especially those who never had the opportunity to visit it before. No matter where I went, I always found fun events that took place in different parts of the city - at cafes, restaurants, bars, bazaars, and supermarkets, that feature product from many different countries along with art venues, museums, you name it. As a student from a different country with different rules, I found it easy to move around the city thanks to the variety of public transportation. The international environment is incredible and the opportunities offered are numerous.
So, for the future, during the courses of my studies, I found myself leaning toward human resource management. And studying at BI will definitely help me to enrich my knowledge of this field, thanks to the methods of teaching that I am sure will give me a solid idea of what to expect and how to establish myself as an HR manager.
Now my advice for students and people who are looking towards studying at BI - take advantage of the international environment around you by talking to your colleagues and learning about their countries and their cultures. Listen to your teachers and professors and try to learn as much as you can from their experiences. Train yourself to become a solid team player by respecting your team members’ ideas and suggestions and, of course, try to use your unique talent or your superpower in the practical activities that will be required of you. You might also discover inner talents that you never knew existed before, it happened to me. And, finally, study - it’s not that hard!”.
