- Registered with the Federal Chamber of German Architects (Bundesarchitektenkammer e.V.) in order to be entitled to use the title “Interior Architect” (protected profession).
BI provides the only "Interior Architecture/Interior Design" program taught in English in Germany that is compatible with the requirements of the Chamber of Architects*. It is the only private university whose curriculum is eligible for future registration in the Chamber of Architects.
*Interior Architecture is a protected profession in Germany. In order to be entitled to use the title “Interior Architect” professional practice and registration with the Chamber of Architects is obligatory.
Interview with Frances Durand, Student of BA Interior Architecture/Interior Design
“My name is Frances. I’m originally from Lima, Peru, and this is my second year studying interior architecture here at BI. I chose this program because I knew that studying in a small university would allow me more one-on-one learning and because I like learning and doing instead of just knowing the theory. Although most of my studies up until now have been online, I appreciate that we have had the chance to go do a few excursions that have helped me get inspiration for projects.
I also thought BI was a great opportunity to place myself in a city that offers so much architecture and art and is also a central point to travel around. Being part of an international community, you learn to appreciate other cultures and other ways of thinking, and that really opens your mind. It also prepares you to work in a versatile environment and opens your network to a new area which is also a plus when applying for jobs. Berlin is a young city filled with so many different people, and there is so much to explore. There is inspiration everywhere. It is such a multicultural space, and that is what makes it so unique.
My future is not clear yet, but I think BI has really pushed me to challenge myself in a safe space. I mean, it is preparing me for any choice I end up making. This is a positive environment with incredible teachers, staff, and peers who are always willing to help and want to see you succeed. So push yourself to step out of your comfort zone, and I assure you it will pay off.”
